Year's Holiday Wish List In the grand tradition of newspaper style columnists, I am providing my extravagant holiday wish list for friends and family. I've tried to include something available in all your cities from Orange County to Edmonton to Boston. This is just a starting point, and things will be added as I think of them. If you prefer less expensive options, check out my amazon.com wish list -- all 114 items of it -- instead. In descending priority:
Marquis Jet
Card from NetJets: Every girl needs to get from point A to point B,
and 25-hours of service from Netjets makes it easy. Pricing
begins at $109,000. If you can't do that, I'll settle for business
class tickets to Buenos Aires, $4,000-$6,000 depending on advance
purchase. I prefer Air Canada or United (I need my Star Alliance miles).
I'm headed to Vancouver soon, so a helicopter charter from Harbour Air is essential. It's only $1098 for three hours, and you can book online. Email me for my preferred dates and times--I'm thinking mid- to late afternoon, would be delicious, just as the sun is setting over Vancouver Island. A new handmade charcoal Ermenegildo Zegna suit, essential for the working man, available at 39 Newbury Street in Boston, at Holt Renfrew in Montreal and Harry Rosen at the Pacific Centre in Vancouver, $2500 and up. Russell Smith from the Globe and Mail also has this on his wish list, so this is sure to be a real hot gift this season. They take one's dimensions, email them to Italy, and in a few weeks I have a new custom-made suit. I've made this year's gift giving easy by adding the 30-inch cinema display from Apple to my wish list. Easy because it's available almost everywhere. Who says 30 inches is superfluous? It may be $3,299, but hey, at least the shipping is free. Find it in Costa Mesa, Cherry Creek in Denver, and Somerset Collection in Troy. A new Wave CD Player from Bose, a steal at $499. My old one doesn't play CDs. Purchase online with ease from Hammacher Schlemmer or at their stores in New York and on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. As an accompaniment, Bose Noise-Canceling Headphones ($299) would be great! I fly a lot, and a pair of these gems would make my iPod experience so much more enjoyable. Actually, my iPod battery is on its last legs, so perhaps a new 60 GB one is in order? To accessorize my new suit, I need a new watch, of course. A safe bet is the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph, which retails for $2,495 and is available at Tourneau at Copley Place in Boston, Santana Row in San Jose, and at the San Francisco Shopping Centre on Market Street. For a modestly priced gift...Many people know about my penchant for modern and luxurious shirts from Arnold Brant, which fit me so nicely. But they are impossible to find--and don't even think about looking for them in the U.S. So this item is perfect for my friends north of the 49th parallel. I like bright colors in size 16/33ish, available at Les Ailes De La Mode in Quebec City, Michel Brisson in Montreal's Outremont section, and at Harry Rosen in Ottawa, Calgary, and Edmonton.
